Natale Bonifacio de Sebenico (1537 - 1592), was a producer of engravings and woodcuts in Rome, where he lived and worked for most of his life. Among his series of plates, the most famous is “The erection of the obelisk south from St. Peter's” produced in the year 1586 to commemorate the preparation, transportation and erection of the 25 meter high ancient obelisk south of the new St. Peter’s Cathedral, which Pope Sixtus V commissioned to the architect Domenico Fontana.
